System of prototypes improves experience through site-specific design adaptations
Prototype scales

Adaptable to site, staff, and system needs, the prototypes range from large, regional healthcare centers to community and neighborhood-scaled clinics.

The circulation and waiting areas provide access to daylight and connection to nature.

A long-term project with a long-term client, the Bon Secours Simpsonville Medical Center is the first location to deploy a new system of prototypes and clinical modules that GBBN has developed for Bon Secours Mercy Health. Given the predictable range of activities and procedures that take place within different clinical settings, the prototype enables designers and client stakeholders to focus their work on site-specific design issues.

A simple cross stands out against an LED-lit wall, giving subtle expression to Bon Secours Mercy Health's spiritual identity.
Natural and artificial light contribute to the well-being of patients and staff.

...a welcoming, light-infused space that inspires confidence while fostering a connection to nature.

While two-story windows at the front of the building give waiting spaces an expansive, open feel during the day, at night they transform the corner stair into a beacon of hope and healing.

Changes in flooring distinguish circulation space from waiting areas and pops of color signal destinations to assist with wayfinding.

The Simpsonville location, which includes an emergency department, imaging, primary care, and other specialty services, creates a welcoming, light-infused space that inspires confidence while fostering a connection to nature. Flooring pattern changes and vibrant pops of color stand out against a neutral palette to signal important destinations and facilitate wayfinding.

Providing a modern take on stained glass, LED-lit walls communicate the state-of-the-art care offered at Bon Secours' Simpsonville location.
