As GBBN’s Director of Healthcare, Michael is passionate about reducing anxiety as people move through healthcare environments. He’s driven to empower patients and practitioners through great design, from arrival to wayfinding to programming and every touchpoint along the way. He directs market strategy and leads diverse teams of clients, planners, designers, and consultants to challenge convention while finding the right solution for every project. Recent work includes TriHealth’s Thomas Center, The Christ Hospital Health Network’s Liberty Township Medical Center, and the Bugshan Ambulatory Health Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A Healthcare Design board member, Michael believes in collaborating and sharing knowledge across the industry; he has been featured in Healthcare Design magazine and presented at Healthcare Design’s annual conference. He’s also presented the business case for innovative healthcare environments for both Facility Care and Design Realized. Outside the office, Mike can usually be found gathering friends, family, and neighbors around the fire pit to sample the Bourbon Trail’s best offerings.

"Having the opportunity to visit and collaborate with a client in Saudi Arabia, allowed our healthcare team to stretch in new ways. We tested our empathetic approach for the patient journey across cultures to unlock key design strategies. Our tenacity was apparent when we rescheduled our 2nd of the day work sessions to start at 10 pm at night through 2 am in the morning during Ramadan. We were blessed to experience great people and learn about a culture through new friends and tour of Old Jeddah." - Michael Lied
