A new house will help Ronald McDonald Charities Dayton keep more families close as their children undergo medical treatment.
A gabled roof, dormers, and the proportion of the windows help the new RMHC Dayton house fit into its residential neighborhood.

For the families of Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton (RMHC Dayton) this home away from home is a haven—a place to celebrate good days and birthdays or retreat after challenging days at the hospital.

Space to play and be creative remains visually connected to other parts of the house.
Pediatric outcomes depend not just on the care a child receives, but the support the family has. Mealtimes offer chances to connect and feel nourished.

More than a place to sleep, RMHC Dayton supports family well-being. Finding opportunities to provide respite, access to nature, and joy are imperative.

The growth of pediatric health services in Dayton has increased the need for families to have local lodging where they can live comfortably for days, weeks, or months while their children undergo treatment at nearby hospitals. However, the constraints of RMHC Dayton’s current house severely limit the number of families they can serve.

On the ground floor of the new house, social spaces are adjacent to each other. Adults can linger in the dining room while keeping an eye on kids in the activity or play rooms.

The new house will increase the number of guest rooms from 14 to 21 and the design allows the house to ultimately expand to 42 rooms. The building’s form, window and wall design, and highly efficient, renewable geothermal heating and cooling system will minimize energy use. This results in an anticipated energy savings of approximately 64% over similar buildings and 20% more than required by code.

The new RMHC Dayton house brings the outside in through color, texture, and the warmth of materials like wood.
More than a place to sleep, right-sized rooms provide storage and work space.

For RMHC Dayton, the project includes quality outdoor space to relax and get some fresh air after a day in the hospital. Keeping families close and providing spaces for both celebrations and setbacks, the new home for Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton will soon be a larger, more energy efficient haven for families.

Long days at the hospital mean limited or no access to daylight and fresh air. Coming home to RMHC Dayton allows families to refresh and reset. Like a lantern, the glass entry emits a comforting glow at night.
