As a kid, Mick loved exploring downtown Pittsburgh with his grandmother. She’d talk her way into buildings that were closed so her grandson could experience the city’s hidden spaces or simply take in a fantastic view. Her open, curious nature informs Mick’s inquisitive, collaborative approach to architecture. Her legacy also inspires him to bring impact to every project. In addition to his work on the University of Pittsburgh’s Hillman Library transformation and their Student Success and Development Center, Mick is the co-founder of (DIS), GBBN’s annual Design Issues Series.

One of my favorite architecture professors once said, “It is important for me to teach you how to travel.” Architecture is a profession of observation and it is important to experience places, spaces, cities and share the habitation of them.
