Breaking Ground, Mending Hearts at TriHealth’s Bethesda North Campus
TriHealth recently broke ground at the organization’s new Heart Hospital. The addition to TriHealth’s Bethesda North campus – made possible by a generous $10 million gift from Harold and Eugenia Thomas – will serve the entire hospital, transforming the arrival experience of all visitors with intuitive wayfinding, amenities, and respite spaces.
The only hospital in the region to earn the Society of Thoracic Surgeon’s highest three-star rating, the new heart hospital will allow TriHealth to handle 30-40% more cases each year, modernizing their facilities and enabling more effective multidisciplinary care.
“Sitting in the heart of Bethesda North, the location of the new TriHealth Heart Hospital is more than symbolic,” says GBBN Principal, Ted Huster. “The new space not only achieves optimal adjacencies to the Emergency, Surgical, and Inpatient Departments, but it will tie together a human-centered, supportive patient experience between all of the cardiac services, from admission to discharge.”
“This project is really about going beyond the expected,” adds GBBN’s Megan Mershman. “TriHealth’s doctors, clinicians—their whole team—are already delivering best in class care, so it’s important that their space communicate that as well.”
The whole project is expected to take three years. Phase one, which will expand the catheterization lab platform and revitalize the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, is expected to be complete in 2022.
