Founded as the Art Club of Erie by a group of local artists in 1898, the Erie Art Museum has grown into a regional destination that hosts permanent and traveling exhibitions, classes, performances, lectures, and events.
Their diverse art exhibits—from ancient to contemporary—is echoed in the building environment. This renovation and expansion integrates three existing buildings and a modern new addition into a seamless visitor experience.
The addition creates an accessible and prominent entry; its outdoor living room and sculpture garden leads inside to a café, retail space, and a free, small public gallery.
In the main gallery, three large rotating exhibit panels provide 64 right angle configurations that ingeniously transform the space for different exhibits. Movable by a single staff member, the system eliminates the waste of building and demolishing panels or storing unused panels
