Straight A’s: GBBN Designs Selected as Architizer A+Award Finalists
Two GBBN projects were recently honored as finalists in the 2023 Architizer A+Awards.
Cincinnati Ballet’s Margaret & Michael Valentine Center for Dance was among seven finalists in the Architecture + Health category and Penn State Behrend, Federal House was a finalist in the Architecture + Community category. Along with the Crane Pavilion (Finalist, 2020) and the Vanke Changchun Community Sports Complex (Special Mention, 2022), these projects join a growing list of GBBN’s Architizer A+Award Finalists.
With a global audience of over 400 million, the Architizer A+Awards seek to “nurture the appreciation of meaningful architecture in the world and champion designers that are integral to bringing great buildings to life.”
“Receiving peer feedback is an important barometer of design excellence,” says GBBN CEO, Matthew Schottelkotte. “These honors, at a world-wide scale, are even more important. We believe they bring direct value to our clients and the communities in which these projects reside.”
This is not the first recognition for either project. Penn State Behrend, Federal House not only won an Honor Award—the highest recognition that a project can win—from AIA Pittsburgh, but it was also featured in Dezeen and ArchDaily.
The Cincinnati Ballet, on the other hand, won an Honor Award from AIA Cincinnati, a Merit Award from AIA Ohio, and was a finalist for the PLAN Awards. Architizer also interviewed GBBN Principal and Director of Arts, Marcene Kinney AIA, LEED AP about the Cincinnati Ballet (here).
