Two GBBN Projects Win ULI Pittsburgh Placemaking Awards

Two GBBN projects were recently honored during the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Pittsburgh’s 8th Annual Placemaking Awards for Excellence. The awards celebrate projects throughout the Pittsburgh region that showcase exceptional placemaking by taking “a multifaceted approach to planning, design, and management of public spaces” to create vibrant, public spaces.

The Roundhouse at Hazelwood Green, which transformed a piece of a 19th Century steel mill into a hub for innovation and community, won a Placemaking Award in the category of “Transformative Placemaker.” This category emphasizes a project’s economic significance to the community in which it is embedded. Fifth & Dinwiddie won in the category of “Visionary Placemaker,” which recognizes the promise of projects that are currently under development. Located where Uptown meets the Hill District, Fifth & Dinwiddie will create retail, coworking spaces, workforce development opportunities, and mixed-income housing all in one place. “Working closely with exceptional clients like Bridging the Gap Development (Fifth & Dinwiddie) and the RK Mellon Foundation (the Roundhouse at Hazelwood Green), we’ve had the pleasure of doing some truly transformational work in Pittsburgh,” observed GBBN’s Market Design Leader for Community Development, Amanda Markovic. “It was great to spend an evening celebrating that work with our clients, and be recognized by our peers in the industry.”
