Cincinnati Children’s Cuts Ribbon on Critical Care Building

Patients and families, hospital staff and administrators, local officials and community members recently gathered online and in-person at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to cut the ribbon on their new Critical Care Building.

The largest private development in the history of Cincinnati, the Critical Care Building will enable Cincinnati Children’s to provide more comprehensive care for some of the world’s most vulnerable patients.

Housing a larger Emergency Department with embedded imaging services, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), the hospital’s Bone Marrow Transplant Program, and support services in one place, the new Critical Care Building expands Cincinnati Children’s capacity for care while streamlining many of its services. At the same time, the Critical Care Building also provides a healing environment for patients and their families.

“Many of Cincinnati Children’s patients spend weeks in the hospital receiving treatment for life threatening injuries and illnesses,” notes GBBN Director of Healthcare, Michael Lied. “For patients and their families, that means long hours in their rooms and around the hospital. That’s why we’re proud that the design provides larger, daylit patient rooms; integrates accessible gardens and expansive views; provides opportunities to engage with colorful, interactive kaleidoscope-themed art; and supports family members with amenities like respite spaces and exercise rooms.”

“It’s all about building a supportive, healing environment for patients, their families, and their caregivers,” says Michael.
